For the past 11 years, Operation Socks has been reaching out to the most needy, the homeless and families in precarious situations, people who lack the basics of life.

These men, women and children live, sleep in the street or in makeshift shelters, endure the cold, the rain that pierce their souls and their clothes. They lack protection and warmth, a change of clothes, blankets and hygiene products, basic necessities.

This year, Belgium is affected by an unparalleled precariousness. More than ever, Operation Socks comes to the aid of these people in need. Thanks to the generosity of the contributors, they will be able to replenish the stocks of the various associations, empty today.

On November 20th, Operation Socks will roll up its sleeves once again on the Place Poelaert from 11 am to 3:30 pm, with the help of contributors and sponsors who take this operation to heart.

Not just socks!

If socks are the symbol of this initiative, the associations active in the field also lack scarves, jackets and pants, hats, gloves, sweaters, underwear, shoes, basic necessities, blankets and backpacks.

Donors are asked to sort by category:

  • - H (men)
  • - F (women)
  • - E (children)
  • - P: Basic necessities
  • - Blankets and backpacks

Catherine Ullens de Schooten has been managing this organization, spontaneously initiated by Claudia Lomma, with a team of 4 people for 9 years.

Unparalleled support

This year again, and more than ever, the association "Solidarité́ Grands Froids" is supporting them, to sort the donations and (re)distribute them to other associations. As every year, Operation Socks will benefit from the precious help of the city of Brussels and the Federal Police, who will put trucks and their dedicated drivers at the disposal of this initiative.

Operation Socks is also supported by Toyota and its dealers in Belgium to conduct numerous collections. Each participating dealership will attempt to fill a ProAce model van. In addition, on Sunday, November 20, Toyota volunteers will be on hand to support the work of Solidarité Grands Froids, the partners of Operation Socks.

"As a Toyota, we want to be an active participant in the communities, cities and countries where we operate. We are very happy to be able to help Operation Socks, with all our network in Belgium, to help collect donations for those in need. The spirit of Toyota is to go beyond barriers and to go further. And it is clear that many need help in these difficult times, so let's mobilize!" - Michael Roosen , Managing Director

Testimonials

"Just a few words to say thank you to all the volunteers and donors who carry Operation Socks. So necessary in this year of extreme economic suffering. More and more people are finding themselves on the street, without resources, without help and without hope. Operation Socks does everything it can to help them but realizes that it is only a few drops in the ocean. Let's all work together to make sure that these drops become a downpour, and then a deluge of solidarity!" Philippe Geluck

"This is my first time being a sponsor of Operation Socks and I am so glad!

On the one hand because I can make myself useful and show my support to this beautiful operation of solidarity which has existed for more than 10 years but also because when we take care of others (by any action besides) it brings us joy, communicative and hopeful! Thanks to social networks we have the possibility to reach many people and it is during these mobilizations that we can see the generosity that others show, the solidarity with the deprived people of our society becomes concrete! It is therefore time to sort out our cupboards... " Sophie-Charlotte Cauuet
